How to Read Your Typing Statistics and Plan Your Next Session

Use the same condition record and error type to plan the next training step to avoid being misled by the highest score or average.

First separate different tasks

English vocabulary, Chinese articles, course keys and customized content have different levels of difficulty. Before looking at trends, distinguish them by language, mode and duration. Don’t lump all results into one number. "My Progress" on this site provides practice records; you can also add personal notes on equipment and input methods.

The highest score indicates what was accomplished at a certain time, and stable performance indicates what can be accomplished most of the time. Both have value, but solve different problems. By only chasing the peak, it is easy to ignore the large number of pauses in ordinary articles.

Write an explanation for a set of results

Assuming that the speed increases and the accuracy decreases, it may be that you are testing a faster rhythm; the speed decreases and the accuracy rate increases, it may be that you are adjusting your fingering; if both decrease, it also depends on whether the materials or equipment have been changed. The cause cannot be directly determined by relying on the result numbers alone. It needs to be combined with the training goals at the time.

Especially for Chinese, the input method vocabulary and candidate selection will affect the completion time. Recording these conditions helps avoid mistaking system changes for finger changes.

Turn review into an action

After reviewing, just choose one thing you can do next time, such as practicing capitalizing the first sentence, reducing the wrong selection of homophones, or changing to an unfamiliar article to verify. Don’t list ten abstract goals. The usefulness of data is to help you reduce blind repetition, rather than increase self-judgment.

Today’s practice

Find the last three records with similar conditions, write down the common mistakes and an improvement, and then formulate a small experiment. For example, slow down the action at the punctuation point next time to see if it reduces rework. Save the experiment results and decide whether to continue using them later.
