Is Your Practice Method Working? A Simple Comparison
Compare practice methods with similar new materials and single changes to avoid mistaking the advantage of familiar questions for training effect.
Change only one factor at a time
If you want to compare slow error correction and repeated speed testing, don't change the keyboard, language and article difficulty at the same time. Start by writing down what you want to change and what results you will observe, such as reducing omissions between words, rather than vaguely pursuing "better overall."
Prepare similar materials for both methods
Try to keep the language, length, and punctuation density as close as possible, and reserve new text for verification. One method cannot use familiar questions and another method uses difficult articles, and then directly compare the speed. Even with this arrangement, there may still be material differences that need to be accounted for in the record.
Not only observe the final score
records error type, number of deletions and sense of completion. One test is subject to state and contingencies and is not enough to prove which method will work for everyone. What you want to get is your own next choice, not a conclusion for all learners.
Today’s practice and inspection
Choose a small adjustment, such as actively slowing down the ending of a word, and use two sets of similar new texts to observe the difference. Practice again and verify again. If similar errors continue to decrease, keep this approach; if there is no clear change, adjust the tasks or materials without continuing to pile up a large number of repetitions.
