Does Increasing Keyboard Repeat Speed Make You Type Faster?

distinguishes key repetition, input response and independent keystroke speed to avoid mistaking system settings for speed training.

Repeat settings control another thing

Apple's key repeat instructions differentiate between how long after pressing and holding it starts to repeat, and the rate after it starts to repeat. This is not the same metric as proficiency when typing different letters in succession. Turning the repeat rate up won't automatically make you recognize text or find the next key faster.

Confirm the actual problem first

If you just feel that the article input is slow, check the pauses and error correction first; if you delete too much at once when long pressing to delete, you need to pay attention to repeated behaviors; if short pressing is often not recognized, you should also check the auxiliary functions or devices. Different problems should not be solved with the same parameters.

Reversible comparison before and after adjustment

Write down the original settings, change only one item, and then try inputting and deleting irrelevant test text. Don't experiment with extreme parameters in important files, and don't change multiple switches at once. Assist settings may serve individual needs and should be adjusted for comfort and reliability rather than minimal latency.

Today’s practice and inspection

Test independent keystrokes and long press deletion in the editor, and describe which behavior does not meet expectations. If the independent input is normal, use the training time on the actual shortcomings. If you encounter persistent missing keys or abnormal bursts of keys, you should first check the device or system. Don't treat it as a problem that can be solved by typing more.
