How to Develop a Steady Typing Rhythm

Reduces sprinting for familiar words and sudden stops for difficult words through phrase grouping, advance reading and slow connection.

identifies sprint and emergency stop

Many people type familiar words very quickly and stop completely when encountering unfamiliar words. As a result, the overall speed is not high. Looking at the blank time during an exercise will reveal this problem better than just looking at the final number. You can pay attention to whether you stop at the beginning of the word or read it again in the middle.

A stable rhythm does not require that the intervals between keystrokes are exactly the same. English short words, punctuation and Chinese candidate confirmation inherently have different processes. The goal is to reduce unprepared interruptions, not to ignore content to keep up with the metronome.

The line of sight is only a little ahead

Try to understand a short word or phrase before starting to type; while your hand is completing the current segment, your eyes are preparing for the next segment. If you look too far ahead, you can easily miss words or reverse the order. Shorten the reading span when missing words are found, and there is no need to forcefully maintain the so-called professional reading distance.

When practicing, you can choose passages that are familiar but have not been memorized, so that the reading difficulty does not interfere with the movements too much. Then add unfamiliar themes to check whether the rhythm can be maintained.

You also need to practice the connections before and after difficult points.

If you always stop after a comma, don't just press the comma repeatedly. You should practice the connection of "previous word, comma, space, and next word". For Chinese, you can practice the punctuation immediately after submitting the phrase, and then start the next pinyin paragraph to avoid rushing to change the mode before the candidate is confirmed.

Today’s practice

Play a short paragraph at natural speed and circle three obvious pauses. Practice one part of it together with the text before and after it several times, and then return to the full text. In the second round, take the initiative to slow down the familiar part and observe whether emergency stops are reduced. At the end, compare the overall sense of completion and errors, rather than just the smoothest section.
