Why You Pause While Typing and How to Practice the Transitions

Design different exercises according to the pause position to avoid only increasing the tapping speed without reducing the waiting time.

Pause position is more specific than feeling

Pauses at the beginning of words often need to check whether the next word has not been read clearly; pauses in the middle of the word can check spelling or difficult key positions; pauses at the end of sentences may come from punctuation, spaces or Chinese submissions. This is just to check for clues, not to determine the cause just by looking at the location.

Make a simple record

After typing a short paragraph, write down three pauses and what you were thinking at the time. For example, "I saw a long word and I am not sure about the spelling", "Can't find the question mark", "The candidate is not confirmed". The record should be specific to the actions that can be changed next time, avoid just writing "poor attention".

Practice together with the before and after content

If you get stuck every time you move from a period to the next sentence, practice the previous word, periods, spaces and the first letter of the next sentence. Merely repeating periods does not simulate an actual connection. In Chinese, you can also practice adding punctuation after submitting the phrase, and then start the next section of coding.

Today’s practice and inspection

Just choose one place to pause and do a few short exercises, and then change articles to check the same type of connections. If the pauses reduce, keep this method; if they still exist, re-observe whether it is a reading or system status problem. Practice does not eliminate all pauses; necessary validation can avoid longer rework.
