One, Three or Five Minutes: Choosing a Typing Test Duration
Select a custom duration according to the training purpose and observe the startup speed, stability and continuous input capability respectively.
The duration is different and the observed problems are different.
The short test is suitable for quickly checking a short section of performance, but it is easily affected by nervousness at the beginning and familiarity of the questions. Longer tests can expose pauses or increased errors in the second half, but also introduce elements of more reading and sustained attention. So don’t mistake your one-minute top score and your five-minute average performance for the same metric.
TigerTyping supports custom timing duration. When choosing, ask yourself first: Do you want to check a difficult key today, or test the stability of the entire article? Once the tasks are clear, there is no need to follow others to set the duration.
gives newbies a sense of completion
Newbies who are still looking for the key can use short exercises or unlimited articles, with the goal of completing a short paragraph. If you continue to press randomly when you encounter timing pressure, it means that the current focus should be turned to completing it correctly. Longer time does not automatically mean more advanced, and being able to explain your mistakes is more useful than holding on for longer.
People who are already more proficient can occasionally do a three-minute or five-minute test to observe whether they become irritable in the second half. Write down the status before and after, and then adjust the practice arrangement.
Avoid repeatedly reopening for scores
Testing should allow for occasional errors. Starting over every time you have a bad start and only retaining one lucky result in the end will hide the true stability. Difficult points can be re-done during training, and during evaluation they should be completed completely according to the pre-selected rules.
Today’s practice
Under similar conditions, arrange a short test and a longer test respectively, with a break in between. Comparing accuracy to pauses looks not just at how much speed has dropped. If the second half of a long test clearly gets out of control, shorten the duration first, stabilize the rhythm next time, and then gradually lengthen it.
