Chinese and multilingual input

Pinyin or Wubi Text Not Committed? Understanding IME Composition

distinguishes combined text, candidate confirmation and web page focus, and troubleshoots input anomalies in Chinese and other input methods.

First distinguish three phenomena

The first is that the candidate box is still open and the text has not yet been confirmed; the second is that it has been submitted but is inconsistent with the question; the third is that the button does not enter the practice area at all. They all look like "not responding", but for different reasons. Describe the specific performance first to avoid repeatedly switching settings.

The input of some languages requires combination and conversion, and each keystroke cannot simply be regarded as a completed character. While the candidates are still changing, first complete the confirmation operation of the current input method, and then look at the final result in the practice text.

Use an ordinary text editor for comparison

Use the same input method to enter a non-privacy example in the ordinary editor, and try it again on the practice page. If both places are abnormal, check the system mode and layout; if only the page is abnormal, note the browser and exact steps. Don’t take the Chinese candidate question directly as a letter key failure.

When the web page is out of focus, click on the practice text area to reposition it; if you are selecting words, handle the current combination state first to avoid shortcut keys being interpreted as other operations by the input method.

Feedback must be reproducible

Effective feedback can be written as: system and browser version, input method name, practice language, text to be input, actual content, and at which step the exception started. There is no need to provide an account recovery code or password. For Japanese, Korean, etc. input, the difference between the combination process and the final submission should also be recorded.

Today’s practice

Enter a phrase in each of the two input environments and observe the order of candidate appearance, modification, confirmation and deletion. Test with made-up text only. After clarifying whether it is an error in focus, mode or after submission, and then adjusting the corresponding settings, it is easier to find the cause than changing multiple options at the same time.
